WHAT BRINGS YOU HERE?
You Don't Need to Have the Diagnosis Figured Out.
Start with what you're experiencing.
Mental health symptoms can affect concentration, motivation, sleep, relationships, school, work and everyday life in different ways. Your first appointment is an opportunity to talk through what you've been experiencing and begin understanding the bigger picture.
ADHD
When Focus Feels Harder Than It Should.
Concerns may include difficulty with attention, organization, time management, impulsivity, forgetfulness or executive functioning that interferes with everyday responsibilities.
ANXIETY
When Your Mind Rarely Feels Quiet.
Persistent worry, feeling on edge, physical symptoms of anxiety, panic symptoms or difficulty managing anxiety that affects everyday functioning may be reasons to seek an evaluation.
DEPRESSION
When You Don't Feel Like Yourself.
Changes in mood, motivation, interest, energy, concentration, sleep or everyday functioning can be worth discussing with a mental health provider.
SLEEP
When Rest Doesn't Come Easily.
Difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep or changes in sleep can occur alongside mental health symptoms, medications and other factors and may be explored as part of a broader psychiatric evaluation.
What If It's More Than One Thing?
Symptoms don't always fit neatly into one category. Anxiety can affect sleep. Poor sleep can affect concentration and mood. Attention concerns can overlap with other experiences. A psychiatric evaluation looks beyond a single symptom to better understand what may be contributing to the overall picture.
01
UNDERSTAND
Discuss your current concerns, symptoms, daily functioning, health history, medications and previous treatment experiences.
PSYCHIATRIC CARE • PERSONALIZED TO YOU
More Than Writing a Prescription.
The medication is only one part of the conversation.
Psychiatric medication management begins with understanding the bigger picture—what you're experiencing, how symptoms are affecting daily life, your health and treatment history, current medications, previous medication experiences and what you hope to improve.
When medication is appropriate, your provider works with you to develop an individualized treatment plan and continues to evaluate how treatment is working over time.
02
EVALUATE
Consider the overall clinical picture rather than making treatment decisions based on one symptom or concern alone.
03
PLAN
Review treatment options together. When medication is appropriate, recommendations are individualized around your clinical needs and treatment goals.
04
MONITOR
Follow-up appointments provide an opportunity to discuss response, tolerability, side effects, questions and changes since your previous visit.
05
ADJUST
Treatment may be continued or adjusted when clinically appropriate based on how you're doing over time.
Medication Isn't Automatically the Answer.
A psychiatric evaluation doesn't mean you'll automatically leave with a prescription. The goal is to better understand what you're experiencing, discuss appropriate options and develop a plan together.
01
What Brings You In
YOUR STORY
Talk about the concerns that led you to schedule an appointment, when you began noticing them and how they're affecting areas such as work, school, relationships, sleep or everyday functioning.
YOUR FIRST APPOINTMENT
Start With a Conversation.
You don't need to arrive with all the answers.
Your first appointment is an opportunity for your provider to understand what has been happening, how it's affecting your everyday life and what you'd like help with. You can start with what you're experiencing—we'll work through the bigger picture together.

02
Understanding the Bigger Picture
YOUR HISTORY
Your provider will review relevant psychiatric and medical history, current medications, previous treatments and medication experiences, along with other information that may help provide context.
03
YOUR EVALUATION
Looking Beyond a Single Symptom
Your provider considers your symptoms, history and current functioning together to better understand what may be contributing to your concerns and whether additional evaluation or information may be appropriate.
04
YOUR PLAN
Deciding What Comes Next
You'll discuss appropriate treatment options and next steps together. When medication is appropriate, your provider will explain the recommendation, answer questions and discuss follow-up and monitoring.
Questions Are Part of the Appointment.
Tell us what has worked before, what hasn't, what concerns you about treatment and what matters most to you. Shared decision-making is an important part of developing a plan that makes sense for you.
